Laminate is a relatively new entry into the flooring market. Invented in the late 1970s and first marketed to the United States in 1994, laminate quickly became a favorite choice because of its durability, ease of installation, lower cost, and classic looks. Laminate is the most scratch-resistant floor you can get aside from tile. Although laminate must be installed over a moisture barrier, there are many good moisture barrier choices that can also improve insulation values and lower sound transfer. Newer laminates are also available with extreme water resistance so that minor spills, pet bowls, and typical foot traffic won’t damage your floor!
